Work Sample Two
Yearlong Training Plan with Multiple Deliverables
Yearlong Training Plan with Multiple Deliverables
In my role as the English Learner (EL) program facilitator, I identified gaps, strengths, and weaknesses in the program using several strategies, including:
Reviewing the targets and goals set by the state, district, and site administrators.
Completing a data analysis of EL student progress towards several measures, including ACCESS test results, graduation rates, AP course enrollment, state test results.
Planning and hosting focus group meetings with teachers and support staff.
End Product
A course landing page to provide staff with access to training materials, resources, and contact information for additional support.
Modules for each quarter with supporting materials and assignments.
Based on the needs, I developed a yearlong professional development plan and outline, which included developing a course in our learning management system (LMS), Canvas, to provide support and professional development opportunities for staff. I then had to move quickly into building the course!
I began by sketching, with paper and pencil, to develop a rough draft for how the course would work and what the course would look like in an LMS. I shared this initial sketch with an administrator and colleague to get feedback.
Based on the feedback, I created a course in the LMS, Canvas, so I could begin to place features and content to bring the prototype to the next phase. I shared the course with a small group of teachers to test its functionality.
After they provided their feedback, I made additional changes and published the course. Once the course was published, it was shared with over 150 staff and used throughout the year.
In subsequent years, this course was copied and updated based on feedback from the previous year, as well as to adapt to shifts in the year-long professional development plan.

In building the training materials for the course, I used the year-long professional development plan, the state's teaching standards, and the state's WIDA standards for EL students as guideposts for content.
With these guardrails for content development, I created the first presentation, which was delivered in person to 100+ staff members. This was later recorded and added to the Canvas course.
As part of the presentation, whether staff attended in person or completed the recording, the training ended with a survey to capture feedback and to identify knowledge transfer.
Feedback and Learning Survey
Participants completed a survey at the end of the training to capture Level 1 and Level 2 evaluation data.
